Communication

Communication with other people is a very important thing to develop as this will pave way to better relationships, may it be a formal, casual, or intimate one. Nowadays, there are many ways to communicate with anyone even if that person is in a different location from yours.

There are different tools that enable you to communicate to anyone from anywhere. Most common are cellular phones. These small gadgets let you call anyone from any place, as long as there is signal or reception. Although there are cellular phones that enable you make video calls, cellular phones are still quite limited to sounds. You will only hear the other person, and it is only a person to person way of communication.

Electronic mailing is another popular choice. Aside from it being free, unlike calling through your cellular phones, sending emails is easy. You just need to type whatever you want to say, click send, then you are done. You can also send a single email to a bunch of people without being hassled.

But again, are you satisfied with just writing and reading words? Don’t you want to read the facial expressions of your friend’s face while talking with them as well? Third is chatting. Yahoo messenger, MSN, etc. These are just a few of the many ways on chatting. These are free and you can also have a video cha but most of these are limited to person-to-person.

Video Conferencing

As you can see, the mentioned ways of communicating are somehow limited by how many numbers of people you can meet up with simultaneously. Video conferencing is the solution to that problem. Through video conferencing, you can meet up with your friends or officemates without really going outside your house. This saves up a lot of money and time, and yet, you are able to talk to and see other people and the best part about this is that you can have a video conference with more than 3 people simultaneously.

Now, if you are worried that video conferencing is expensive, well, you are not entirely correct. If you are planning to use video conferences in big business settings then you’ll need to buy the proper equipments and these may range from a few hundred to thousands of dollars. But if that’s not the case, then you can say it is free.

For most video conferences, all you will need are your computer, webcam and microphone or a headset, internet connection and software that will enable you and your friends conduct your conference. You may either download or just use the web-based software. Here is a list of the available ones on the net.

  • Skype. You have to download Skype from the net and it is absolutely for free. Through Skype, you can have video conferences with up to 2 participants aside from yourself. Skype is, however, more recommended for a person to person video conference.
  • Videoconference.com is web-based and have no need of downloads and installations. You just have to register, sign in and create a video conference room.
  • Wangomeeting. Similar with videoconference.com, Wangomeeting is free and is web-based. You just need to have a Flash player installed in your computer.
  • Palbee. This is also web-based. The only drawback is that the conference will be limited to one hour only.

All of the mentioned sites and software will enable you to have a video conference that is not restricted to a person to person communication. You can meet up with several of your friends or colleagues at the same time. So go and check out these sites and see what satisfies you the most.
