The Amazing Video Conferencing IP

Before, our ancestors had to walk all the way to attend a meeting. Then cars were invented and it made their life easier. And then there was the internet and conference chats became instant hit. Then it developed into conference calls.

Between all of these, man dreamed to be in a meeting where they could see their colleagues face to face without actually going all the way to a venue just for that. If before that was a dream, now, that is a common thing and it is called video conferencing IP technology.

Technology of Video Conferencing IP
Most of us probably saw this idea first on TV and it kept us asking if that was real. I asked if people conversing to a monitor looking at a moving image of their mate are possible at that time and I got the answer of, “maybe”.

Not so long after I asked that, videoconferencing IP-based technology popped out and people enjoyed the luxury of seeing who they are talking to without the limitation of distance. All around the world, people could now talk face to face as if they are near each other.

Video conferencing has been around for a long while now but it only became readily available to the public by 1980s and even then the video that comes with the audio is of poor quality. It was only during the 1990s that videoconferencing IP based became possible. With videos easily being compressed, videoconferencing can be done with a common desktop.

In order for one to join a videoconference though, he first has to have these basic components: A webcam or video camera to take his video; A monitor or a projector for you to see yourself or the person you are communicating to; A microphone to input your voice; A headset for you to hear the replies to your messages, and of course, the Internet to transfer data to and from you.

Beauty of Video Conferencing IP
Before the launching of Internet Protocol, the Integrated Service Digital Networks was the technology used in transmitting video and audio data. But as mentioned, the quality was poor. With the birth of IP though, a lot has changed. IP is what we used when we send mails or other data when communicating via the internet.

More beauty spots of videoconferencing IP is its capability to allow you to add PowerPoint report slideshows, HTML presentations and others into your videoconferencing environment. That sure would bring color and clearer presentations during conferences.

Probable Problems with Videoconferencing IP

Along with the birth of teleconferencing comes the “eye contact” issue. Everyone has learned in their public speaking or even just plain speaking lessons that “eye contact” is very important. Teachers say maintaining it shows your sincerity, etc. But this powerful piece in communication is compromised as videos are not as perfect as gauging once reactions if you are personally face to face.

Another presenting problem experienced and observed by some is their appearance while on video. There are video-shy people much like those who shy away when cameras appear on their line of sight. Being on video (added with the probability of being recorded) may be scary to some but it is something that can be practiced or get-used to.

Videoconferencing IP has many advantages especially in the corporate world and is increasingly becoming popular in the education field. This technology continues to be upgraded which is truly amazing.
