PC Video Conferencing: your conference beyond limits
Wouldn’t it be great to communicate over great distances, wherever, whenever you want, while being able to see the person you are talking to?
With the advent of technology, this has been made possible. Unlike keeping in touch with other people with the use of computers by typing our messages through chat or by simply talking to them through voice conferences, video conferencing also enables us to see them. It enables us to simultaneously look at and speak with two or more people, making it very practical to use.
Types of video conferencing
- Point-to-point communication
This type of communications is most commonly used for personal purposes. It involves two-way audio and video that enables two people to have a face-to-face conversation. It can also be referred to as small scale conferencing. It can be used in connecting with family, friends and loved ones.
- One-to-many video conferencing
In this type of conference, a number of users who are linked to a main site are served by a single video feed. This type of conference may be used in educational purposes such as lectures. In this setting, the lecturer may see and hear all of his students while all of the students may in turn see and hear their lecturer, but may not be able to do so with their classmates. It may also be used during board meetings.
- Many-to-many video conferencing
It is also known as multi-point connection. In this type of conference, there are more than two sites involved. Each of the sites is provided with audio and video which are interconnected with one another. It may also be considered as a large scale conference. It is typically used in large meetings. Each of the participants can hear and see one another.

In our daily busy schedules, video conferencing can be of help in most of our communication problems.
In business, video conferences can aid us in keeping up with our work even if we are out of the office. It can be used for presentations. It can also be used in sharing resources in coordinating and collaborating with our co-workers. With the use of this technology, we may be able to lessen on the frequency of travels to the office, thereby enabling us to reduce the travel expenses and save time.
Because of different reasons, we have to be away from our families. Even in great distances, we still have the need to connect with our loved ones back home. The use of computers has greatly bridged the gap between us and our loved ones. Being able to speak to them while looking at them at the same time somehow makes us feel at home. We may also have the sense of oneness and belongingness with them in one way or another.
Video conferencing may also be used in the field of education. Although there is no physical interaction involved, the exchange of thoughts and ideas between the students and the lecturer is not hindered but is also addressed. As the lectures are given, clarifications by the learner may also be entertained, catering to spontaneous and effective learning.
